HSF & Migrateful

Hackney School of Food is excited to announce our new partnership with Migrateful, the migrant chef food charity.

Starting in May they will be hosting cookery lessons* each Thursday evening, with guest chefs Jahan (Sri Lankan), Stella (Nigerian) and Yogi (Sri Lankan) being just some of the exciting cultural cuisines on offer.

To check which amazing chef is cooking up tasty dishes, and book your slot please head over to the Migrateful website or their Eventbrite page to secure your place in the kitchen.

Migrateful is an award-winning charity running cookery classes led by migrant chefs facing challenges in integration, independence and accessing employment in the UK due to legal and linguistic barriers. The cookery classes provide ideal conditions not just for learning English and building confidence, but also for promoting contact and cultural exchange with the wider community.

Migrateful trains refugee and migrant chefs through regular workshops. The sessions begin with confidence-building exercises. Trainee chefs then take turns teaching the rest of the group how to cook their traditional cuisine. When our chefs feel ready, they deliver cookery classes to paying customers, supported by Migrateful.

*(Please note that Migrateful are responsible for organising bookings and running the classes.)

“This is an exciting new step for us to work with Migrateful, it offers an opportunity for our community to really show off their cuisines, and for others to experience new food cultures and dishes. It’s what Hackney School of Food is all about – to push our cookery knowledge, and create enthusiasm for food outside of our comfort zones.”
