LITTLE CHEF HOLIDAY CLUB
JOIN US THIS MAY HALF-TERM

Thursday 30 May & Friday 31 May
11am-1pm; £20 per session

We’re offering morning  cooking sessions for children across 2 days this May Half-term.

We’ll be making the most of the spring produce in our garden to cook lovely recipes with your little chefs who join us in the session. 

Two-hour classes run on Thursday and Friday morning of half-term (11-1pm) and will offer children the chance to go outside and harvest fresh ingredients from the garden to create seasonal recipes in the kitchen. Both sessions are led by experienced and skilled chef educators.

Children will have the chance to make new friends, enjoy the garden and get to know our chickens. Spaces are limited so book yours now

We want our clubs to be accessible so please get in touch if cost is a barrier for you.

Where and when:

  • Dates: Thursday 30 & Friday 31 May
  • Sessions run 11am – 1pm with the meal cooked to take home
  • Drop off and pick up is at the Hackney School of Food, Oswald Street, London E5 0BT

Tuesday 9 April & Wednesday 10 April
11am-2pm; £22 per session

We’re offering morning and afternoon cooking sessions for children across 2 days this Easter.  We’ll be making the most of the fresh produce in our garden and cooking some lovely Easter-themed recipes for the little chefs who join us in the session. 

Sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday will take place from 11am – 2pm and will offer children the chance to go outside and harvest the freshest of ingredients from the garden to create seasonal Easter recipes in the kitchen with Chef Liam. Children will then be able to eat their dish together and have some time to enjoy the garden.  Spaces are limited so book yours now!

SUMMER Term ’24 After School Cooking Club

Join us in the kitchen and garden for our summer term after-school cooking club. We’ll be making the most of the fresh produce in our garden this term to teach the little chefs all about what food is in season and how to cook with it. Children will have the chance to go outside and harvest ingredients from the garden (and even collect eggs from the chickens) to create healthy and home-grown recipes in the kitchen with Chef Theo. Each week children will learn a new recipe and a wide variety of cooking skills . 

We can’t wait to see the kids in the kitchen!

Where and when:

  • Every Tuesday between 3.45pm- 5.15pm (except for May half-term). Book for the full term  (13 sessions) from Tuesday 16 April to Tuesday 16 July.
  • Drop off and pick up is at the Hackney School of Food, Oswald Street, London E5 0BT.

Key information:

  • Suitable for children ages 7+ only
  • Open to all children
  • The cost is £15 per session, or pay for the full-term at £195 per child (13 sessions)

Free COOKERY SESSIONS FOR TEACHERS 

Thanks to funding from Hackney Council,  we are now offering free cooking sessions to Hackney primary school teachers. This will allow schools to improve their teachers’ food knowledge and cooking skills while providing them with continued professional development.

During the session we will cover:

  • An introduction to the Hackney School of Food
  • How to work safely in the kitchen environment
  • Technical preparation and safe cooking skills 
  • Nutritional knowledge – e.g. 5-a-day, the Eatwell plate and main food groups, salt/sugar intake, seasoning with herbs and spices
  • Seasonal ingredients and how to adapt recipes to accommodate dietary needs

On the day we will be working in teams to create the dishes, and they will take their creations home with them.

Adult Cooking ClasS: EDIBLE GIFTS FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON

Thursday 2o December 1:30-3.30 pm

Get into the holiday spirit and join us for a two-hour community cooking class that will teach you how to create 3 unique edible presents to share with your friends, colleagues and family the festive season.

 Chef Tom will starts the class with a demo of mince pie scrolls before you learn to create your very own chocolate Florentines and spiced hot chocolate. 

There will be plenty of opportunities to try the baked treats or take them home to share with your friends and family.

This fun and seasonal class will be suited to all levels of cooking ability. 

HSoF Autumn Term ’23 Cooking Club

Get your kids feeling confident in the kitchen this Autumn with the Hackney School of Food cooking club!

The Hackney School of Food cooking club will introduce your children to a wide variety of cooking skills and food flavours. Each week they will learn a new recipe and take a culinary trip around the world. The course will cover knife skills, baking bread and preparing a variety of vegetables and meat. When possible, they will also harvest seasonal produce directly from our gardens.

We can’t wait to see you in the kitchen!

  • Every Tuesday between 3.45 – 5.15pm from Tuesday 5 September – Tuesday 12 December
  • The club will not run during half term (Tuesday 24 October )
  • Drop off and pick up is at the Hackney School of Food, Oswald Street, London E5 0BT

  • The cost is £15 per session, paid per term at £210 per child ( 14 sessions)

Autumn Trail 2023

Thursday 2 November 4:30-7 pm

The return of our ever-popular Autumn Trail.

Follow the pumpkin lantern trail through our gardens, and take part in judging the best carving!  

Drop-in activities for all the family will be dotted around to join in as you wish, whilst you keep warm by our firepits.

To keep you and your party warm we are offering a free cup of soup and chunk of bread with every ticket, and we will have a selection of warming refreshments and freshly prepared food for you to choose from.

Open House – Meet the Architects

Saturday 9th September 2023, 10:30AM – 1:00PM

As part of Open House Cities this September we are opening our garden gates and kitchen doors. Come and meet the brilliant architects behind our multi award-winning food education hub and find out more about our ‘seed to spoon’ learning.

Surman Weston will be answering questions about the origin of the scheme and how they retrofitted the old school caretaker’s house into the amazing teaching kitchen and gardens.

We are running 2 one hour sessions on this Open Cities afternoon.

Meet the Architects

Meet our brilliant architects behind our multi-award-winning food education hub, as featured in the architectural press and ‘The Sustainable City’. 

Surman Weston will be answering questions about the origin of the scheme and how they went about retrofitting the caretaker’s house into the Food Education Hub that stands today with the teaching kitchen, surrounded by productive gardens, supplying ingredients for our lessons. 

We are running 2 one hour sessions on this open house afternoon, with an opportunity to meet our Award Winning architects, Surman Weston.

  • A full architectural tour of the kitchen & gardens
  • Q&A session

Parent’s cooking & exercise class

Every Friday from 9 June, 10am -1pm

These free cooking and exercise classes are a great chance for parents to learn weight management tips, and how to make delicious, low-cost, family-friendly dishes while enjoying some gentle exercise.
